The Refugee Centre is a non-profit organization based in Montréal, Québec, that provides a sustainable structure of integration for refugees, immigrants, and newcomers in Canada.
We offer a wide range of services including Orientation, Academic Aid, a Learning Centre, Health & Wellness Support, Employment, Housing, a Legal Clinic, and Advocacy.
We serve people of various statuses including international students, permanent residents, sponsored refugees, convention refugees, and asylum seekers.
Position Overview
We are looking for a dedicated and experienced HR Coordinator to support our staff of ~50 people on a part‐time basis. The role will be remote, requiring approximately 8–10 hours per week. The person in this role will help strengthen HR processes, ensure our policies are up-to-date and aligned with Québec and federal regulations, and support a positive, inclusive, and compliant workplace culture. This is a remote role with flexible hours, ideal for someone who enjoys working independently while ensuring compliance and fostering a healthy workplace culture.
Key Responsibilities

Manage onboarding and orientation for new employees, interns, and volunteers

Maintain and update HR policies, employee handbook, and internal procedures to reflect best practices and legal requirements in Québec/Canada

Maintain employee records, ensuring data is kept confidential and secure

Support recruitment: job postings, screening applicants, scheduling interviews, reference checks

Advise staff and management on HR questions, policy interpretation, benefit-related matters, workplace culture, and compliance issues

Assist with performance management and staff development processes

Address HR matters as they arise, including but not limited to workplace relations, policy enforcement, and employee well-being

Process and coordinate bimonthly payroll in collaboration with finance team
Qualifications

3+ years of HR experience, ideally including experience in a small NGO or non-profit setting

Strong knowledge of Québec/Canadian employment laws, labour standards, and HR best practices

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong administrative capability

Comfortable working autonomously and managing time responsibly with minimal supervision

Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds

Ability to communicate fluently in both French and English

Experience with payroll and HR software ( ADP) is required.
French is the primary working language at the Centre. However, proficiency in English is required for this position in order to communicate effectively with English-speaking staff members at the Centre.
